It is hard to believe that the tongue could actually go so low as to strike 
the pavement, but it was happening. I tried to change speed to avoid the 
"resonance" effect of bouncing, but that didn't help much. It was a 
TERRIBLE road - probably frost heave damage.

When the tongue went down, it pushed the chain links into the concrete. 
Sort of like forcing the links into a spinning grinding wheel - same 
effect, anyway. I had SIGNIFICANT chain link loss from this. When I 
uncrossed them, they would have touched the concrete, but would not have 
been forced into it with several hundred (or thousands?) pounds of pressure.
