From reading this ongoing thread, I think what you are trying to do is avoid
having to own a large'ish tow vehicle for both towing the trailer AND every
day driving. But I totally agree with Daisy and Hunter - if your objective
is to enjoy your trailer and be as safe on the road as possible, the
wonderful Japanese-made vehicles and smaller (more fuel efficient US made
ones too)are simply not a good option for towing larger Airstreams. Other
uses? You bet!! But despite what the manufacturer's may say, simply put they
are not designed for towing large, heavy RV's as safely as the larger Ford
:) , GM or Chrysler products. Believe me, YOU WILL be surprised how often
other drivers will pull out in front of you, forcing you to (hopefully) to
just slow & down to allow them into 'your' lane of traffic. But often you
will be forced to slam on your brakes. And when that happens, you do not
want to have your trailer driving (pushing and/or controlling) your tow
vehicle where you & your loved ones are riding. Its just not safe, and the
probable end result is not pretty. You are facing an important decision that
revolves primarily around your safety and that of others sharing the road
with you, but also cost (changing a bad vehicle purchase decision is VERY
expensive!). Besides that, I'll bet that once you get used to driving a
'large' tow vehicle, you will come to love the all around versatility they
give you.
