People have lived for thousands of years in the Arctic in igloo's made of
snow. I find it hard to believe that one our beloved aluminum igloo's
couldn't be upgraded enough to be comfortable in this climate. Keep in mind
that wood only gives R1 per inch of thickness and log cabins have been the
house of choice for many trappers in the north for century's. People
generally pile snow around their houses as high as possible that adds
greatly to the insulation value. This could also be done with the Airstream.
You will definitely need a larger furnace than the original one. I've been
involved in testing snowmobiles in Yellowknife in January and it stayed
below -45 for several weeks. It'll be tough on the heating bill but it is
very possible.
