Hey Donna,
        Go to radio shack and they have a few nice reasonable radios 
that will suit your needs just fine my suggestion would be to get one 
with the weather channels in it so you can moniteor it when needed and 
most have an alert feature that will let you know automatically if an 
alert has come up.If you live anywhere near one of those big truck stops 
they almost all have cb shops or sales in them too.
