Yes, the double beds do seem to be more rare than the twins.  I have a 1985 
Sovereign with a fixed double bed in the streetside corner so I know doubles go 
back at least that far.  Actually, it appears to me the original bed was a bit 
smaller than the standard 54" wide double bed since the matress I have hangs is 
a bit wider than the support structure underneath.  I think the previous owner 
bought a replacement mattress in the standard 54" width and just let it hang 
over.  I added a piece of plywood underneath the mattress to match the size of 
the mattress to provide a bit of edge support.  The wider mattress makes it a 
bit narrow in the aisle beside the bed but I'll trade a couple of inches of 
aisle space for bed space anytime.  Seems to work out well for Susan and me.  I 
had to do a bit of looking to find the double bed but they are out there.  My 
floorplan is similar to Hunter's but as she says, hers in the wide body and mine 
is not. I don't miss the width because I've never had it but I'm sure it would 
be great to have!  On a few occasions squeezing between barriers in a 
construction zone I've been glad I don't have a wide body but it probably was 
not as tight as it seemed.    

As another thought, check the bed length when you go shopping.  I'm 5'10" and 
don't think I'd be real comfortable if I was much taller since the bed is about 
74 inches long.  I'm spoiled sleeping in a queen bed at home, I guess.
