Oh boy -  After hitting send on the last message, I realized this statement 
is about as clear as mud!

By terminal decomposition, I did NOT mean decomposition of terminals, but 
the often fatal chemical decomposition that takes place in a discharged 
lead acid storage battery by the process of sulfating and generation of a 
conductive sludge or mud in the battery that can short out the plates and 
cells.
