RE: [A/S] Funtioning Power On Light with non Univolt converter

The secret is:

The single lighter gauge wire from the Univolt to the fuse panel is
connected to ground when the Univolt is receiving 120 Volt AC (Shore) power.

In other words, there is power to the control panel light (from the 12 Volt
electrical system)even when the converter is not on.  However, the power on
panel light circuit is completed (the ground is connected) via a switch in
the Univolt.

So, the solution is to switch the return wire from the power on light in the
control panel to ground when the new inverter is powered up by shore power.

I did this with a Radio Shack 120 volt relay and a small plastic electrical
box.  The relay is energized by a 120 volt power cord which I plugged into
the same 120 volt duplex recepticle that the Inverter is plugged into. Thus
the relay is energized whenever the inverter gets power. I have a 1976 25'
Tradewind, and the inverter and fuse panel are mounted behind the oven on
the road side (driver side).

I will be out of town for a couple of weeks, but can send you a photo and
more specifics if you need them when I return.

The reason most people have had little success in activating the Power On
light is the above described "reverse logic" of the circuit (it doesn't need
power - it already has it).
