You will be happier with a 3/4 truck.  Two examples:
One relative used to tow his SOB with a 1/2 ton Suburban.  Even with a sway 
bar, he got blown around by the 18-wheelers.  He later traded for a 3/4 ton 
Suburban, and was extremely pleased at much easier life was while towing.

Another relative bought a 3/4 ton Suburban to tow his Airstream.  Later, he 
purchased another Suburban of the 1/2 ton variety.  It was relegated to 
towing his boat as he could tell it could not compete with the 3/4 ton 
suspension/tires for towing a travel trailer on the open road.

In both cases, the relatives stuck with the 3/4 trucks because of the 
suspension & tires.  The bigger motors also made things easier, but they 
were more like icing on the cake.

I followed their lead.
