RE: [A/S] Power for LP gas detector

A/S wires the LP detectors DIRECTLY to the battery thru a separate fuse (ie
bypassing the master 12V disconnect and the 12v circuit panel entirely). I
installed a switch so that I could kill the detector while the unit was in
storage (ie to eliminate the parasitic current draw that will eventually run
down the batteries). I talked to both the LP detector manufacturer and A/S
to ensure that disconnecting it while in storage would be okay and both
indicated that other than it taking a few minutes on reconnection to warm
up, it would be fine. Connecting the detector to an existing circuit will
not impair its capabilities, but it does mean that should the circuit you
tie into blow a fuse, you would also loose the LP detector. You should be
able to fish a couple of 16 gauge wires from the batteries to the location
you have selected.
