RE: [A/S] waterfilters, and the Everpure How much Clorox
To superchlorinate questionable drinking water into potable water in
conjunction with an Everpure charcoal water filter in a clean tank, add one
teaspoon of sodium hypochlorite (household bleach - 5 1/4 % or 6%)per ten
gallons of water. Thus for a 40 gallon tank 4 1/2 teaspoons (or 1 1/2
Tablespoons).
To freshen a fresh water tank, Airstream recommends a cup or so of backing
soda and several gallons of water to slosh around and then sit for a
minimum of four hours. Then pump the tank (or drain, if you can) and refill
with fresh water.
To more thoroughly clean the tank use household bleach at a ratio of 1/4 cup
to 1 gallon of water. [1 gallon of bleach for each 15 gallons of tank
capacity] Completely fill the water system and allow to sit for three
hours.
Drain and refill with potable water.
Excessive bleach taste or odor remaining in the water system is removed by
rinsing the system with a white vinegar solution in the ratio of 1 quart of
vinegar to 5 gallons of water. Drain and flush with fresh drinking water.
Drain the system and refill with fresh drinking water.
