Oliver:

         Thanks for the information.  My manual says the same thing about 
sweetening the tank...that means 10 quarts (2-1/2 gallons) of vinegar for 
my 50 gal. tank!  Seems like a lot to me; I use the baking soda instead, 
and have had no residual taste..
         The basic Chlorox formula seems too low to me, but 3 gallons of 
bleach is a really serious attack; I'll do that.  Thanks again.
