You have had a whole wack of suggestions already, I suppose one more 
won't do any harm.

A few years ago I acquired a metal filing cabinet from a heavy 
smoker, it was pretty grungy on the outside.   The guy that I got it 
from suggested Ammonia cleaner.   I was surprised how well it 
worked.  
My wife also agrees that liquid ammonia cleaner does a number on 
grease.
