we live in northern vermont and after a couple cold january days w/o power 
we need well water. sure, fire wood can handle heat, the garage is fine for 
refridgeration, candles for light, but the snow just doesn't melt fast 
enough inside when it's -30 outside. an 18 gal rubbermaid storage container 
packed w/ snow produces about 1 gallon of water and takes 2 days to melt. we 
don't have a generator, but the neighbor that does is a big help by the 
third day.  i respect your view on the issue, i want the option.
