I know what you're saying but sometimes generators are necessary.

Monday night we had a horrific lightning storm and the power went off.  No 
biggie, we lit candles and waited.... I wandered out to my trailer and when I 
got to the last room in the house my feet hit water. Tjhe sump pump wasn't 
working because the power was out.  I quickly got the generator, gassed it up, 
fired it up and plugged in the sump pump.  It's horribly noisy, but the sump pump 
started pumping saving the house from getting alot more water.

Then there are people on respirators and such who need power.....

I hate the sound too, but sometimes it's necessary.
