The best way to save money is to by a new but superceded (discontinued)
model.  Stores like Office Depot (or Comp USA) will give you good deals on a
new but superceded Toshiba, for example.  I have had good luck with Office
Depot.

Obviously, you don't want to compromise on necessary features.  However,
getting one that is a tad slower or has a slightly smaller hard drive is not
going to make a big difference, except in cost.
