As A full timer I use Directv and the new Dual Drive Reciever/Tivo.

You dop need the phone line for the first set up.

However, after that almost a year ago , No phone line no problem.

If you check your messages it say's you have not checked via phone for XXX 
days.

Other than that no problem..

If you want your drives updated you do need to connect to a phone line for 
a day
as they send data updates in the wee hours.

How do you down load to DVD???

Mine I believe only does it to a VCR???
