I live in the Dallas area of TX and I don't use antifreeze anymore. I do go 
out and turn the central heat on about 60 or 65 when a freezing spell is on 
the way. No need to open anything but the cabinet doors in the bathroom to 
allow heat to the sink, shower and hot water heater lines. The central 
heater adds heat to the lines from the rear to the kitchen so it stays warm 
in there.  I do disconnect the outside hose and open the outside faucet 
(water pump off).
