Re: [A/S] Potable anti freeze

in my two sob's - '79 dodge rv and '83 burro tt - i've installed under-sink
water filters and flash hot-water heaters... i've had freeze problems with
these units, and with a small stretch of copper line supplying water to the
rv's toilet.

in all instances, the damage has occurred with water that is 'sitting'
inside these units, with no place for the *air* to go when the water freezes
and expands... in the case of the water filter, i now unscrew the housing
for the filter cartridge and put it (and the cartridge) in the sink. With
the 'In-Sink-Erator' flash water heaters, i shut off the water supply, open
the drain plug underneath the heater unit - draining the water that was
inside - and leave the drain plug out for the winter. Otherwise, a freeze
will rupture the plastic filter cartridge housing, or the plastic hot water
reservoir, respectively.
