FWIW - The Mercedes 300 series are used in many parts of the non-oil
producing (read that as 'poor or underdeveloped) Middle East as taxi cabs,
because they will withstand the wear & tear, get good mileage and I was told
thay they are fairly easy to repair and engine, transmission and body parts
are so easy to find. They bring them in from the more wealthy Persian Gulf
countries (where they used to trade them off because "the ash trays were
full??) or from Europe, where they then enjoy a very long service life.
