Hello Peg and Mark, Everyone does it different, but I have always 
gone by the book and drained the lines and water heater like they 
said and blew the lines out with an air compressor from the city 
water hook up. I have had less problems doing it this way and it is 
the cheapest way. That hot water heater has got to have a drain on it 
somewhere. Richard in Southwest Ohio
