Re: [A/S] Odors

Okay Marvin, here comes Poop Tank 101. aka The Solution to Pollution is
Dilution.

When you start with an empty, dry tank, and add your magic juice/powder,
you need to put some water in too. I know it seems like it might fill up
faster with that head start, but the magic stuff needs liquid to work.
The package will tell you how much

AND the solids you put in behave better if they're floating.

Next safety tip: Go easy on the tp. Some folks use a coffee can or zip
lock to put all or some of the used tp in. It's also a good idea not to
use triple ply TP or worse yet tissues.

Finally, don't leave the dump valve open or dump too often. One person
should be able to go a week on a black tank. If you don't let it fill up
with liquids, the solids and the TP make Mount Pooper Mache in there. (
you can see it if you dare to look). For this, you need to fill up the
tank with water and drive somewhere. Some folks put ice cubes in to stir
things up. Or you can blast it with a high pressure blast from a hose
afer it's soaked for a while
.
Ignore the little guage that pretends to tell you if the tank is full or
empty, they are notorious liars.

So much for normal operation.

Questions:

Does the door at the bottom of the toilet bowl seal ? If not, you may
have to clean out the groove it fits in. They do sell a special tool for
that, but a coat hanger works just fine.

Is the vent pipe intact, attached well and unblocked ? Sometimes
critters get in there....

Is there (gasp) a leak in the black water tank? This is pretty
expensive and tiresome, and requires more info, ie year, model, layout
etc, and also how devoted to smelly repairs in confined spaces you are.
It is unusual in newer trailers, some of the real oldies or ones that
have been abused might have it.

That's it, good luck,
Daisy
