Not necessarily true. There must first be 'probable cause' to make the
stop and request to see the registration. The initial request for
driver's license and registration is to see if the names/addresses
match, which may lead to further questions as to ownership if they do
not.

If you don't want anyone to look in your glove compartment, carry the
registration in your wallet, but be aware that some states require the
registration to be in the vehicle, so if someone else drives the
vehicle, be sure to pass the forms on when they do so.
