generators

Being new to the group, I've read back thru several postings and read 
with much interest the postings on generators. On my dad's airstream, 
we took an Onan 2500 watt propane generator and mounted it in the 
bottom of his TV cabinet just ahead of the refrigerator. A couple of 
reasons for being there was, road side, propane line and close 
proximity to batteries. We made an aluminium housing to seal it from 
noise and more importantly the exhaust fumes. After acquiring a ref. 
access door, we cut a hole in the side of the trailer and installed 
the door for servicing the genset. Wire was run down thru the frame 
rails to the rear bumper compartment where the power cord is stored 
and a 30 amp plug installed. Everytime he leaves a campground he 
plugs the cord into the plug and is ready to use the genset if he 
stops along the way for a break. It also keeps from having a transfer 
switch and being pluged into shore power and generator at the same 
time resulting a damaged generator. A remote switch was added over 
the kitchen cabinets to start and stop the generator. 
As for noise, it is one of the most quiet sets built and has a 
spark arrestor muffler, and inside you can talk at a normal tone. 
With the AC running you can't hear the generator. The only way you 
can tell a generator is installed is the chrome tailpipe stuck out a 
couple of inches.
Sorry for the long post, but figured I might be able to answer 
most question at one time. I also use the same set up except mine is 
portable as I have a 25' and don't want to give up the needed space. 
Also I can't use mine at rest stops as easily as he can.
