We would have preferred a smaller one, too.  I would have loved to tow with 
the Big American Car that I already own (Roadmaster).

If you want small because you think it will be less money, it won't be.  A 
good small one will be worth more than a med-to-large one.  My guess is 
that far fewer were made after cars got small; once buyers realize they 
have to buy a truck anyway, they opt for more space, Corian and oak, the 
whole rolling condo thing.

Smaller will likely be older, not cheaper, just older.  Our new-to-us 1985 has 
all sorts of neat upgrades, like an instant hot water dispenser, and a wall 
switch in the bath to light the water heater.  Older ones are, well, older, 
with fewer features and older, less reliable appliances.

Once you, too, decide that you'll need a full-size truck for towing, then you 
can open yourself to whichever clean, well maintained, nice trailer shows 
up, regardless of size.  Once you load up your 25-30 footer and hit the road, 
you may wonder what you were thinking when you were thinking "Bambi."
