I don't think the A/C runs continuously. The fan does, but the 
compressor seems to cycle on and off depending on how the thermostat 
is set. This cycling may defeat your manual switch idea.

Once the A/C is actually running, the power draw is low enough for 
the EU2000i to keep it going... or so I have been told.
