Any chance we (experienced Towers) can come to some sort of consensus on 
a formula similar to the above that would provide a measure of safety to 
the average Newbie Trailer Towing individual?

I like the way the above was described.  I bit nicer version of it, 
maybe with a graphic as well, might go far.  Another possibility would 
be to list some of the preferred towing setups here complete with Tow 
vehicle descriptions including weights.

This particular topic seems to get a lot of airplay on the list.

        NOTE:  Where's the Front axle about, in the middle of the 
trailer, Approx??,  assuming that, (I'll measure it.)
        I would have about 15 ft to the Tongue, plus the overhang of the 
tow vehicle which comes out to about 3 feet for a total of 18 FT.

Using the formula above . . .

I would have a factor of (11.425/18) 0.6347 for wheelbase/HitchSpan 
distances, with an ideal factor being something like a 1 (one) that 
should be used to shoot for.

Come on all you mathematicians, how can the Axle weights be applied to 
this . . . .  ???
