Re: [A/S] Towing with a Ranger and SUV as tow vehicle...
I'll second that... I've done some towing and a whole
lot of 4 wheeling with a Ranger. It is an
understatement that that pickup has some pretty nasty
and snappy suspension characteristics when you get
cockeyed a little. On more that a few occasions, I
almost flipped in on the trails because the suspension
would wind up and the release is a sudden spurt of
energy.
Towing was always (not) fun. It was like driving your
Dad's old station wagon with about nine people in it.
Just get a little tweaked and it's time to change your
shorts.
Needless to say, I got rid of it.... before it
flipped. Now I drive and tow with a 99 Durango w/
towing setup. Even that's a little under trucked for
a 29' trailer. The Durango is rated at 7400. I towed
at 6400 and didn't like it. It handled fine, but was
short on pulling power. (Live in CA) It has the 5.9 L
and is geared around 3.7 with an auto.
