Re: [A/S] awning for 1959 Pacer (19')

Kate,

Welcome to the group and the somewhat crazy world of Airstream
owners. The only sane ones left are subscribers to this list. Back in
1959 there were only two awning choices for your Pacer. One, was
the traditional patio awning which was manually mounted on the
trailer each time you set up camp. Unpack it, get out your ladder or
stool, feed the welt edge into the awning rail on the coach, set the
poles, stake the rope anchors and tighten everything up snug, check
tension regularly as movement of the trailer will tend to loosen
things up. They were usually made of some pretty heavy canvas and
made great shade.
Or, you could spring for the new fangled patio awning invented by a
fellow Airstream named Henry Duda from Illinois. His awning stayed
on the trailer permanently and you just pulled it out when you
wanted shade, no poles, no stakes, pretty cool. Of course you had to
go to Elk Grove Village, Ill to have his crew put it on for you. One of
Henry's friends even came up with a clever name for the awning.
They decided to call it a Zip Dee from the phrase "zip-a-dee doo da".
Either contact Zip Dee direct or locate a local dealer. They still
make an awning that will fit your Pacer.
