You don't have to be the original purchaser, my friend bought the RV
used.  No questions were asked other than how to help.  My inability to
visualize three dimension physical things makes it hard for me to
understand the FF opening at an angle.  Is the installation turned so
that the hinge is to the side instead of the front?

I have never heard about an "Airstream" shim.  Do you have any further
information on this?
