When I bought the unit in 1995 I put on new tires and rims, and will 
replace the tires this summer.   I have had no towing or any other 
problems relating to the single axle.   It tows like a dream.

Advantages:
- Only two tires to buy.
- Likely tows easier.
- Smaller wheel wells inside.
- Tandem Torflex axles can have a problem because they are tandem.  I 
have an enclosed snowmobile trailer with tandem Torflex, about 7,500# 
loaded.   Once I had a flat while driving and you can't tell with 
Torflex.  The good wheel sheared off all of the studs and "parted 
company" with the trailer.  I now carry a full set of spare studs.
- Doesn't skid tires when backing up and making sharp turns to park 
in a tight spot.

Disadvantages:
- A tandem should ride smoother, however; I always leave my shaving 
kit on the bathroom vanity across the back of the trailer.  It has 
made lots of 500 mile trips wihout falling on the floor.  It is 
amazing how things do NOT move around.   I have seen posts and 
letters in Trailer Life where people can't even keep clothes hangers  
from coming off the rod in the closets,never happened to me.

I have suggestion for someone to contact about a used Aistream.  He 
is the Membership Secretary for the Vintage Airstrean Club, and 
restores Airstreams as a hobby.  The trailer on his website is his 
own 1966 Tradewind which he restored and won "Best in Show" at the 
Internatinal Rally in 2002.
