Susie - even if he does exist, you don't need him.  You can read, and 
there are books which explain just about everything you need to know 
in the entire world.  If you are fulltiming, this is your life, and 
you can spend that life learning how to fix your fridge.  You might 
screw up the first two or three things you start on, so start on 
something like a toaster or something else that isn't going to really 
affect your life.  The first thing you need is a very good and 
complete and comprehensive tool box, such as the 505 piece tool kits 
that Sears or Monkey Wards sells, which have screwdrivers, wrenches, 
pliers, a hammer and a complete socket set in quarter inch and three 
eighths inch drive.  This with a roll of electrical tape and a 
soldering iron with some solder will get you well on the way to 
becoming that person you described above.  Nothing is so difficult 
that it cannot be learned with time and a little help, and Hunter has 
assured us that that help can be found right here, and I believe her.
