Just make an adaptor for your clamp-on meter - take a plug and socket and 
wire them up as if you were making a short extension cord, except make the 
hot wire separate and a bit longer so your meter can go around it. Just use 
this as an extension anytime you want to meter it.

BTW, I bought a clamp-on ammeter just recently from Harbor Freight tools 
for only a few dollars.
