We have the Norcold 8.0 cu.ft. 3-way model which I installed back in the
early part of 1988.  It still works just fine and I can run it on
propane, DC and AC.

However, when first pulling down the temperature for use I always use
the propane.  I also modified the intake area for outside air to come
into the unit *and* I installed a computer fan to help exhaust move
quicker.  The result in my case is that I can use the fridge in about 4
hours and can in fact then make ice.

My modification works just fine and I also attached a LED lighted switch
for the on/off position of the computer fan on the forward wall that
houses the fridge.  Before doing the mod with the intake and fan the
heat buildup behind and around the new fridge was significant.  Now I
don't have that to worry about.
