From a law of pjhysics standpoint, the less the overhang the better, given
the same wheelbase.

The weight equalizng hitch is a way of transfering the weight forward (and
can compensate for the overhang - to a point.  Still the closer you can get
the actual hitch to the rear axle the better.

In addition, with less overhang you will have less tendency to fishtail, as
there is a shorter moment arm between the hitch and the rear axle of the tow
vehicle.
