Hi Jack,
With all this electric jack talk it got me to wandering. I went out to 
my coach and reconnected the inline fuse at the battery. My electric 
jack worked fine. I then pulled the fuse and thus no power to the 
jack. I then hooked up the the pigtail to my truck and still my jack 
would not work. It then dawned on me that I did not have a good ground 
because I was not hitched to the ball on my truck. So I tooked out my 
jumper cables and grounded the trailer to the truck and it worked.
The only other thing you might be able to do if this happens again is 
have a portable powerpack to supply power to your battery until you 
can charge it. I bought one frokm WalMart for about $40.00 last year 
and it has saved my bacon a few times already.
