explains it pretty clearly.

Two generators will be "noticeably louder" than one. 'Twice as loud' means
different things, depending if you're talking about dB/sound-pressure
levels; or if you're talking about subjective differences. Kinda like the
difference between listening to Fran Drescher or Julia Roberts.
