RE: [A/S] Boondocking - How Many Watt Inverter Will I Need
Jim:
Thanks for the reply. I now have a better understanding of the
difference between a converter and an inverter. Thanks. I will look
into changing out the Univolt in the near future.
I really don't need to use the AC all that much - it doesn't get that
hot where I will be (the fans, if they work would be fine) and I
frequently use an Igloo cooler that plugs into the cig. Lighter (this is
12V isnt it?) so I can get around the fridge problem, although this
won't keep things frozen but that's OK.
I am reluctant to use a generator because it would kind of spoil the
atmosphere (pristine mountain area). It is so quiet up there that you
can hear a pin drop and a generator would really sound out of place.
I can bring power to my lot but it will cost me in the neighborhood of
$7000 for the approx. 1 mi. run from the closest tie in (my neighbor).
To make matters worse, after I had paid to have the line run to my
property, any of the adjacent lot owners (3 20 acre parcels) would be
able to tie into my/the line for free! Two of the owners live out of
state and I have not been able to speak with them and the other who is
local refuses to chip in (he is selling his lot though).
