[A/S] diesel fuel mileage re: Excursion
Terry,
Which engine do you have in your Excursion? This vehicle gave much better
mileage immediately after adding about 10 oz. of John Deere diesel fuel
conditioner. I believe the injectors must have been *dirty* or fouled in
some way as they best mileage I was able to obtain previously was 17.1 mpg.
When I recently refueled along the Interstate, I added the JD fuel
conditioner. Then I topped off the tank. At speeds of 75 mph I got 21.2
mpg for as long as I ran that speed. I know the mileage around towns won't
be as good as the steady speed of the Interstate *but* as I said before the
best I was ever able to obtain before then was only 17.1 mpg and that was at
about 65 mph with the cruise control on.
This very good increase in mileage was hard for the Ford dealer to believe
also. Prior to using this fuel conditioner I thought my exhaust really
smelled strong and I now believe this was from raw fuel not being burned due
to fouled fuel injectors and / or moisture suspended in the fuel. The JD
product will get rid of the water in the fuel and also clean the injectors.
From my experience now I will use the JD fuel conditioner every few tanks or
so simply because of the great job it did right away for my engine and
mileage. I wish there was some way I could easily "polish" the fuel system
of the Excursion like is done on so many boats with diesel engines.
