Re: [A/S] Travel to Big Bend N P

Jim;

In Big Bend you'll camp in Rio Grande Village which is
in the Southern end of the park near Bocias canyon.
They don't take reservations, but you shouldn't have
any problems this time of year. Do take the trip
across to Bocias (sp) Mexico; it's an old village that
has one dirt road, one general store, and one bar.
The park is big and worth visiting for 4-5 days.

You should leave through the northern side of the park
and take the river road to Presidio, TX. It's the
trip not the town you'll be doing this for.

Fort Davis is not that far and a nice place to go to
if you have the time. There is a scenic road into the
Davis Mountains that will take you by McDonald
observatory that is nice. You can camp at Davis Mts
State park if you go.

Then there is Marfa, TX and the mystical Marfa Lights.
Just ask anyone from Big Bend to Ft Davis about them,
and they'll fill you in.

Before you go to Big Bend do your grocery shopping at
the town you leave Hwy 90 to get to the park, Alpine
or Marathon. The prices in the park are a bit steep.

Have a good time.
