He has a real no-nonsense way of getting right to the point, and brings 
up several things to think about before you jump in.

My opinion on a puller: get a 3/4-ton P/U and be done with it. No one 
EVER says, "gee, I wish I had a smaller, lighter, shorter, less powerful 
truck to tow with". Gas is OK, Diesel is better, IMO.

You also didn't define "to travel when I retire": are you going to go 
"full time", take several lengthy trips each year (2+ months), become a 
snowbird and stay in one place all Winter, make mostly a lot of short 
trips of a week and a few hundred miles, or....???

There is no 'correct' answer for everyone, but there's a 'probably best' 
answer for YOU, along with other 'will work' answers. The first thing is 
  homework for you: think for a while on how YOU plan to use your RV, 
then think about YOUR preferences.

Obviously, most folks here prefer the "trailer and puller" option over a 
motorhome, and equally obviously, we prefer "travel trailer" over 
5th-wheel style. The 5'er owners will brag about their storage, but seem 
to forget that they have no storage in the truck bed. WE have lots of 
storage there, and the right setup makes it at least as convenient as 
the 'basements' in the 5'ers.

Try to remember that Bigger is not always Better, even if you're living 
in it all year 'round.
