Re: [A/S] Replace Vista View windows?
Leon,
A trick of the trade if you like. When we remove Vista Vue's we don't intend on saving
the unit. So, we use a chisel with a rounded end to knock the heads off the expose
rivets rather than drill them out. Since they are all aluminum it doesn't take much.
By pushing from inside and pulling from inside the frame you remove the old unit. What
you will have then is a hole with a series of rivet stems. We use a shop grinder to
take down the rivet stems and clean off any remaining sealant etc. Be very careful to
stay within the foot print of the old window. The reason for this is one, the
little holes in the new frame will not line up with the old hole, two the lip of the
hole now has a solid edge to anchor the new unit to rather than two sets of rivet
holes. We then use double stick tape on the window frame as the primary sealant.
Installation is done with Olympic rivets (shaved head rivets). The final sealant is an
eyebrow of Vulkem.
