Oliver,

The Safari line is really using the equivalent
interior construction you talk about.  I have no
raised panel doors or other extras found in the
Classic line units.

The best you can do with these vehicles are pop-ups or
some small ultra lights.

My feeling is that Airstream is not going to be able
to produce a line of trailers that competes with the
$15,000 or less range.  Especially if they want to
stay true to the aluminum body, frame, and axle
configuration.  But you get what you pay for.  

Remember when Cadillac tried to produce a lower priced
car?  I think it was the Cimmeron and it was one of
GM's small cars with Cadillac emblems and more seat
padding. Very few bought into this charade.  People
expected more from the name and a low cost Chevy clone
wasn't the answer.

To get the price down they would have to change the
basic formula of what makes an Airstream an Airstream.
 The Safari was a good step and it is now their best
selling line.  The interior changes are a good next
step and bottom line sales will prove if they are
moving in the right direction. 

The biggest problem right now is how this crazy
economy will pan out and how much disposable income
the younger crowd has to spend.  Does Airstream want
to become more like Prowler?  I hope not, but in
corporate America today it no longer counts to do a
good job and make respectable money.
