  I think you'll find that the Atwood water heater will be quite 
satisfactory on all counts:

It really doesn't use that much gas. The biggest savings of the 
on-demand type of heater is the lack of a tank to keep warm when no 
water is being used. I don't personally think that amounts to a whole 
lot in the grand scheme of things. Even if you're a full-timer, it'd 
take forever to pay for the "instant" job in propane savings.

If you have shore power much/most/all of the time, you can get a "hot 
rod", or electric heating element for most water heaters. That elminates 
gas usage altogether, making your hot water "free" if you're at a park 
where electricity is included.

Even though the Atwood is only 6 gallons, you'll not run it out of hot 
water very often, if ever. That's enough for at least one very leisurely 
shower, in my experience, and it'll recover within 20-30 minutes for 
another one. If you're a bit careful, you could have nearly back-to-back 
showers for as long as you desired because there's normally at least 10 
minutes or so between people anyway.

We do a lot of boondocking in the Summertime, never being connected to 
shore power. A 30# propane tank lasts us about 3 weeks if we don't need 
to run the furnace. I always open BOTH tanks so the auto-switcher can do 
its job, and check the little indicator every day or 2, especially when 
I know it "should" be getting close. When it goes red, I flip the 
selector, close the valve on the empty tank, and remove it for 
refilling. When I reinstall it, I open the valve so it's ready to 
auto-switch when the time comes. We have NEVER run both tanks empty, and 
I never have to relight the fridge or water heater pilot. (our stuff is 
old-fashioned and needs to be lit manually)
