[A/S] Water Heater Concerns

I second the advice and info offered by Jim Dunmyer.

The 6 gallon water heaters installed by A/S will normally provide adequate
hot water for a couple, even a family with conservation practiced.  One of
the inherent advantages of the relatively small tank is rapid recovery.

In my previous life I learned to take "submarine showers" out of necessity.
We had a very limited supply of fresh water for personal use in the old
diesel-electric submarines..  The technique of get in, water on, wet down,
water off, soap and scrub, water on, rinse off has served me well in an A/S
as well.  My wife practices the same technique.  We can follow each other
immediately into the shower and have adequate hot water, even in very cold
weather.

As Jim also suggested, addition of an accessory electric heating element
improves the performance of your water heater while saving LPG when hookups
are available.  My previous A/S had one, I plan to install one in my present
one.

It is an American tradition to modify our possessions to fit our own unique
needs and we all do it.  But Airstreams work pretty well as delivered.
Thousands of them have been built and used by more thousands of satisfied
owners over some 70+ years.  The product has been cautiously and
continuously refined over the years.  If you are patient for a while you
might decide the trailer meets your needs without expensive new appliances
which could result in unanticipated trade-offs.
