Re: [A/S] 7 way Plug

TrapperJ:

Your concern is correct. When the trailer is plugged in, tow vehicle and
trailer electrical systems are connected. In a previous Ford tow vehicle I
owned, the truck and trailer were only connected when the ignition switch
was in the "on" position. When parked with tow vehicle engine off, the
trailer could not deplete the tow vehicle starting battery. My new Dodge
does not have an isolation switch. When the trailer is connected, it
appears to be possible to discharge the tow vehicle's starting batteries.
It may also be possible to damage the truck's electrical circuits when the
truck and trailer are connected and, the trailer is plugged into 115vac
shore power. I don't know if GM trucks have an isolation switch. I wish my
Dodge did.
