If you travel with the Dauchhounds, I don't think you have any thing to be
nervous about... Noisy dogs will keep anyone up to no good away... Such
a person does not want to attract attention, If the dogs make noise when
anyone approaches, if that person is up to no good, he will go looking
for a quieter target where he is less likely to attract attention... Even tho
Dauchounds are small dogs, they are hunting dogs and very protective.

Dogs seem to have a sixth sense about people,  My mother used to
have a female Labrador that we all thought would never hurt a fly. That dog
was a very gentle laid back dog, but one day while my mother was in the
back yard working in the garden, she heard a commotion out front and
some hollering.  Some scruffy individual was delivering telephone books,
the dog didn't like something about this fellow, the dog had him by the arm 
(gently) but was not letting him come up the driveway. He took one look
at my mother coming, dropped the telephone books and ran...
