I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about exhaust brakes on the big
rigs because I have lived near a large intersection for many years.
What I found out was the @#$!# things are loud because someone took the
muffler off for more power.
The newer trucks like the Volvo have a silent exhaust brake because they
still have their muffler on.
Trucks like Hunter's have never rattled my windows at 3am. I suspect they
do not have the cubic inches to do it when compared to the big diesels in
the big rigs.
I am sure they would be loud with no muffler but that ticket around here
is high so I never see it. I know it is coming because there are many
such trucks around here and the people that have them cannot or will not
get the muffler replaced when it falls to the ground a few years from
now.
