Harvy and the list,

Ford incorporates a "warm up valve" in the turbo housing that blocks 
the exhaust path similarly to an exhaust brake valve.  When the 
engine is cold, the computer closes this valve and raises the engine 
idle speed to help warm the engine.  

I suspect the replacement chip mentioned by Tom May in a recent 
posting (msg# 15059) operates this warm up valve to provide exhaust 
braking.
