Re: [A/S] Re: Canadian buying/parking airstream in USA?

Sounds like a great idea to have the dealer/storage facility tow the
trailer for you, if you're going to plant it.
The reason trailers and other vehicles are registered is to locate
owners in case of accidents and other losses. If you're registered in
Quebec, the local boys in blue may have difficulty finding out who the
registered owner is when it is stolen and finally recovered. <faint
hope> Whether the state authorities will register a vehicle to an out of
state owner, is their call. I think, however that I have seen vehicles
registered to Michigan residents with Ontario plates.
The other problem is insuring your trailer when it is permanently
located out of province. Your insurer may have some reservations about
insuring something that is not located in their territories. In fact you
may not be able to have your current insurer insure your trailer and
will have to have an insurer from the local state insure it. Again, we
have Michigan residents who own stuff in Ontario, insure it with Ontario
insurers, as Michigan insurers are not licensed to do business in
Ontario.
