Mike,

Try www.Delorme.com,  They have excellent mapping software at reasonable 
prices.  You may have to purchase two different programs, STREET ATLAS 
which has a excellent data base of whats along your travels, and TOPO USA
which is a excellent topographic package, both by Delorme...
